Golden fall in Wachenheim, on tours through the autumnal colorful Wingert (vineyards) or the Palatinate Forest.
Only in fall?
Wachenheim is for us all year round the center, the place to go to explore the wine route from here or to see and enjoy the familiar again.
New wine and onion tart always taste good and are a destination and excuse. Watch the grape harvest or pedal and relax in nature. Nestled in a green sea of vines and the Palatinate Forest Nature Park lies the wine and sparkling wine town of Wachenheim on the German Wineroad.
The Schloss Wachenheim sparkling wine cellar is well worth a visit. The sparkling wine from here tastes good to me ... even as a self-confessed beer drinker ... just great. And it's interesting to see how sparkling wine is made in the past and today. Here, as in Champagne, the principle of bottle fermentation is used, which is good for the quality and taste.
So get there, go in right next to the church and sign up for a guided tour. That's all it takes.
Wachenheim Castle is a ruin that can be easily seen from afar. And not only that, it is also easily accessible on foot for avowed drivers.
We arrived and were surprised again: In this castle ruin you can see history - but you do not have to, because up here there are snacks for refreshment, good beer (!!) , breathtaking views of the Rhenish Plain and at wine festivals the bear rocks here.
Those who have come up here by bike, as we did, should rather resort to something non-alcoholic and after a refreshment can move on in the direction of Haardt. Whether alone, in pairs or with child and cone, here everyone can actually find something interesting for themselves. «Repeat offenders» need not fear boredom, I think.
