In the «Black Périgord», where much forest grows and castles watch over the Dordogne, lies Sarlat-la-Canéda. During the Middle Ages, Sarlat grew larger and richer and became an important trading center. Many houses from this period were built by wealthy merchants. Truffles, foie gras, mushrooms and morels, nuts, candied meats and and ... are some of the finest gastronomic specialties. In the street between the old houses, time has not stopped. The historical and the modern go really well together here. Sarlat-la-Canéda was a rich commercial metropolis. What it was like for the pepper sacks at home can also be seen here. Strolling through Sarlat during the day is beautiful. In the evening and at night, when the gas lanterns burn, this city becomes timeless.
