Bavarian Bakery Museum

Highlights

At the Kulmbach Mönchshof, baking and brewing belong together—true to the old German motto: "Today I bake, tomorrow I brew..."

For more than ten years, the Bavarian Bakery Museum has been located right next to the Bavarian Brewery Museum. It takes us on a fascinating journey through time, leading from the present day all the way back to ancient Egypt.

A Fairytale History

The start of this impressive tour is an old baking house from the 17th century. In this atmosphere, you almost expect the witch from "Hansel and Gretel" to come around the next corner at any moment.

From grain to flour: Impressive milling technology across three floors.

Technology 1.0: The Mill

At the beginning of the baker's craft are grain and agriculture. We dive deep into the rural life of the early 20th century and eventually arrive at an old "Neidmühle" (envy mill) that towers over three stories.

Here, the work of the miller is vividly explained. We see genuine "Technology 1.0," learn about historical types of propulsion, and discover everything about the different types of flour that form the foundation of our daily bread.

Craftsmanship: Where flour is refined into bread through hard work.

From Flour to Enjoyment

In an old bakery setting, we experience how flour becomes bread through manual skill and hard work. However, the best part comes at the end: as the tour concludes, a piece of fresh malt and hop bread from the museum's own oven awaits to be tasted. A true highlight for the senses!
