Since July 2011, the renovated Mildenburg has been home to the Museum Burg, which is part of the Miltenberg museums.
The exhibition consists of approximately 170 art works from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as Russian and Greek icons from the 16th to 19th centuries from the collection of the Diocese of Würzburg and over 180 Romanian reverse-glass icons from the collection of Joachim and Marianne Nentwig.
It is very likely that the castle was built from 1144 onwards by a member of the noble family of Weinsberg named Burkard on behalf of King Conrad III.
In 1979, the town of Miltenberg finally acquired the castle, which was only partially habitable and in dire need of renovation.
For many years, a meaningful use for the building was sought, until in 2000 the idea arose to establish a museum in collaboration with the Diocese of Würzburg. Extensive renovation work began in 2010, and the museum opened in July 2011.
Those who want to let their gaze wander beyond the next work of art will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the Main Valley.
