The Miltenberg City Museum is a regional cultural and history museum located in the heart of the old town. It is housed in the Alte Amtskellerei, a magnificent Renaissance building directly at the famous "Schnatterloch" square. Following extensive renovations, the building was reopened as a museum in 1996 and has since provided the perfect setting for a journey through the region's history.
A Bourgeois Idyll
Since April 2010, a very special gem has been hidden between the museum and the old town wall: a bourgeois Renaissance garden. The reconstruction recreates the typical home gardens of that era and offers a moment of tranquility. From up here, you also have a fantastic view over the interlocking roofs of Miltenberg, the glinting Main river, and the gentle hills of the Spessart in the distance.
History Across 44 Rooms
The sheer size of the collection surprises many visitors: the exhibition spans over forty-four rooms and vividly tells the urban and regional history. The exhibits range from the first traces of Stone Age settlements and the Roman era on the Limes to the immediate present. A must-visit for anyone who wants to understand how Miltenberg became what it is today.
