In 1612, the Archbishop of Mainz, Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, invited the Society of Jesus to Aschaffenburg. The Jesuit Church and the first college building were built between 1619 and 1621. The Jesuit Church has been used as an exhibition centre since 1976 and, since 1990, has focused on classical modernism and established contemporary positions.
