Baroque Meets Modernism: The Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche
The Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche is an extraordinary venue in Aschaffenburg's cultural landscape. Housed in the historic Jesuit Church, built between 1619 and 1621, this magnificent Baroque building has been sensitively transformed into a modern exhibition space. Where prayers once filled the room, high-caliber works of art now find their home.
A Harmonious Symbiosis
A visit to the Kunsthalle offers much more than just a view of exhibits. It is the experience of a harmonious blend of deeply rooted history, imposing architecture, and contemporary trends. The atmosphere of the former church lends an additional depth to every exhibition—one that is often missing in classic "white cube" galleries.
Classical Modernism & Today
The Kunsthalle is primarily known for its clear focus on Classical Modernism as well as significant contemporary art positions. The rotating exhibitions bring a variety of artistic expressions to life, making the museum a fascinating cultural destination for art lovers from all over Europe.
From College to Cultural Hub
The roots of this site date back to 1612, when Archbishop Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg summoned the Jesuits to Aschaffenburg. Since the church was deconsecrated in 1976, it has served as an exhibition hall. Since 1990, its profile has solidified with a focus on 20th and 21st-century art, radiating far beyond the borders of the Spessart region.
