Modernity by the River

The Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCS) was founded in 1973 and moved into its striking, purpose-built home in November 1998. It ranks among the largest museums of its kind in France. Across its vast exhibition spaces, it houses an impressive collection of around 18,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, graphic arts, and design. The timeline spans from Impressionism (around 1870) to the immediate present, complemented by an extensive photographic archive.

Colors, Forms, and Ambiance

What makes the MAMCS truly special is its accessibility. The artists on display appeal even to visitors who may only have a passing interest in the world of modern art. The interplay of colors, shapes, and the airy, light-filled environment in which the works are placed is immediately captivating. It is a place that fascinates beyond mere professional curiosity, inviting everyone to explore and discover.
