A Legacy of Centuries
The Stiftsmuseum in Aschaffenburg is a fascinating cultural treasure house. Located in the heart of the historic old town, it forms part of a unique architectural ensemble that includes the Collegiate Church of St. Peter and Alexander and an impressive Romanesque cloister.
The Charm of Bygone Eras
The museum is housed in the former chapter hall of the St. Peter and Alexander Collegiate Foundation. These historic premises lend the exhibition a very special atmosphere and provide a worthy setting for both sacred and secular exhibits.
From Prehistory to the Middle Ages
The collections are diverse, spanning prehistoric, Roman, and medieval periods. Particularly valuable are the numerous regional finds, which paint a vivid picture of the settlement history along the River Main.
Unique Masterpieces
Absolute highlights of the collection include one of Germany's oldest panel paintings and a rare chessboard dating back to around 1300. Breathtaking religious artworks, such as altarpieces, sculptures, and liturgical objects, complete the portfolio and turn the visit into a journey through Christian art history.
