Camping Le Pavillon Royal is a campsite located on the Basque coast on the city limits between Biarritz and Bidart. It offers a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean and is located directly on the sandy beach. There is a gym, a massage parlor and a hammam. It offers various activities such as yoga, pilates, aqua aerobics, boules and ping pong.

We arrived in the late off-season, in June.

The campsite has large and small pitches, which are separated by hedges. So you don't stand like on a parking lot or like on the open field.

Electricity, water and sewage are available at the pitches.

The sanitary facilities are good and clean. This applies to the showers, the sinks and the emptying points for the chemical toilet. Hygiene is really taken seriously here and professionally managed.

Showers and compartments with sinks are very clean and technically intact. Hot water was always available at all times of the day, which is not always the case even in places of this category.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Possibilities

The direct access to the Atlantic Ocean makes this place the address for surfers.

Distances to other cities are very short, different from what we experienced in the Dordogne. The village center and an Intermarché can be reached quickly by bike or by car.

Our recommendation

Status: early summer 2023

The campground is good, even for longer stay with camper or caravan.

The facilities are up to 5-star level, there is a store with quite acceptable prices and a restaurant with good cuisine.

Recommendable.

More?

Yes. There is no reason to be afraid of language problems here, because besides French, German and English are spoken.

And - the Bay of Biscay is not the Mediterranean : there is constant and sometimes serious wind. Investing in storm protection straps for the awning or for the front tent are, I think, not the badest idea.
