Camping La Paoute

Located in the southern part of the city, yet incredibly quiet—this is what characterizes the campsite in Grasse. Everything a camper's heart desires is available here: decent terrain where it's relatively easy to level your motorhome or caravan, large and small pitches separated by hedges for privacy, and some ancient olive trees that provide shade. It's not just quiet here, but you're also right in the middle of Mediterranean nature. The cicadas sing—or you might have the rare luck of one choosing your hiking boots for its nighttime molting. It must be very exhausting, as it took a long time until our guest finally clung to a tissue and I could place it on the tree at our pitch (right picture). In a very short time, however, this cicada was hardly recognizable anymore, as the fresh shell looked exactly like the tree bark.

Opportunities

Grasse can be perfectly explored from here. If you enjoy art, visit the various museums or the artist scene at Place de la Poissonnerie below the town hall. The theme of perfume is omnipresent in Grasse—in museums, the old factories of the master perfumers, and small, independent creators, of which we present our selection here. Additionally, there are two other major areas to explore: the Grasse hinterland and the Mediterranean beaches.

Our Recommendation (as of 2018)

Since 2018, we have stayed at this site four times. The site offers exactly what can be expected from a 3-star facility. The curves within the grounds are sometimes very narrow; losing your focus can easily result in damage to the vehicle. There is little room for maneuvering, so a mover on the caravan is necessary to position and level it correctly. Highly recommended.
