What a new feeling it is to travel to a completely unknown area for the first time in many years! We chose Bidart because there is a campground here, where we hoped to find everything that was promised on the Internet.
Surrounded by its numerous beaches and its gulf, Bidart has managed to preserve the charm of a small village while promoting seaside tourism. Bidart is open to the ocean and the Pyrenees and offers you beautiful panoramas. the coastal path is one of the stages.
Bidart, known since the 12th century, was originally a fishing village, a stop for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela and a lively postal station, located in the Maison Posta in what is now Rue Erreteguia, the road used by Louis XIV on his way to St Jean de Luz for his wedding to the Infanta of Spain.
The village center with the town hall, the 16th century church, the beautiful gable and the whitewashed houses with oxblood half-timbering hosts most of the summer events as well as the weekly market.
The geographical location of Bidart - it is right on the beach of the Bay of Biscay and midway between Bayonne in the north and Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the south - it is a good starting point to explore the nache inland or to surf with enough wind and waves.
